Welcome to the University of North Texas Harry Potter Alliance! We are an official chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance (http://thehpalliance.org/). We like to call ourselves "The Order of the Eagle", as the eagle is UNT's mascot. Our goal, in coordination with the HPA, is to, "by using parallels from the Harry Potter books . . . educate and mobilize young people across the world toward issues of literacy, equality, and human rights." Issues like poverty, genocide, and the climate crisis, among others, are at the forefront of what the HPA calls "Horcruxes", because they, like Voldemort's in the Harry Potter series, are harbingers of evil, misery, terror, and "world suck" that need to be destroyed. And that is exactly what we, as fans of the series who live by what the books promote (namely, love, friendship, and tolerance, et al.), seek to do through the HPA.
We are also looking into doing other things with this group, such as starting a Quidditch League, a "wrock" (wizard rock) band, and fundraising for a trip to LeakyCon, the famed Harry Potter convention in Orlando, Florida, or a similar convention, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, also in Orlando.
